When The Stars Align

Sometimes I wonder if we ever had
that "Turn Left, Turn Right" moment

Were we ever in the same place at the same time?
You, with your friends, while I was with mine.
Within an arm's reach or at opposite ends of the train,
Or sitting on a bench, watching the rain,
Waiting for it to stop pouring.
Did we ever pass by each other, in a rush,
On a busy Monday morning?

For four years, I lived in a city next to yours.
If we knew each other back then, could we have opened our doors?
Would the old me like the old you, and vice versa,
Our younger selves with different goals, mindsets, and mantras?

Fast forward to our late twenties...

Me, in my hometown, miles away from yours
But thank God for advanced tech,
Communication became easy
through different platforms.
We met once, and then came the dreadful years
Which brought everyone to tears.

The world was in its hardest times when we became friends.
We talked about life and the latest trends,
Recommended stuff and taught each other new things,
Shared our thoughts, backgrounds and past flings.

We met again after three years, on your birthday.
It was a rainy evening in May.
I saw you in your element.
You were given presents,
But your presence,
Was a gift to the audience.

But as we grew older within those four years,
The laughter somehow turned into tears,
For our goals, mindsets and mantras have changed.

I guess, whatever happened, had to happen.
But I hope it's just a "Pause", not the "End".
Sometimes, even friends need some space,
And hopefully, this is our case.

Oh, will the stars ever align?
No one can tell.
But I hope one day,
Our priorities, values, and feelings would, as well.
